Eligibility Requirements

Before applying to a program, please review the eligibility requirements for that specific program. Criteria for all programs include:  

  • Successful completion of one semester (minimum of 12 undergraduate credit hours) at the institution they are seeking a degree. University credits earned during high school do not count toward this requirement. 
  • Transfer students may apply to study abroad for their first semester admitted at USM as long as they meet all program specific eligibility requirements.
  • Minimum 2.25 cumulative GPA
  • In good academic and conduct standing from the time of application through the duration of the program. If a student becomes ineligible for participation because of academic or conduct standing, the student will be responsible for all withdrawal fees.
  • Must be 18 years of age by the program departure date.

Some programs have additional eligibility requirements, such as GPA, course prerequisites, language requirements, etc. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program.
