Coronavirus Update

MARCH 16, 2020 - The University of Southern Mississippi’s study abroad programs are being suspended through June 30, 2020. Due to the heightened concern over COVID-19, the CDC has implemented a worldwide Alert - Level 2, Global COVID-19 Outbreak Notice.

Summer program directors and staff from the Office of Study Abroad will be in touch with all students registered for summer programs.  More information will be provided about specific programs and possibilities as we move forward. Students currently registered for summer programs will be receiving more information about options for program deposits, including refund or transfer. If you have any questions or concerns, please email studyabroad@usm.edu.

MARCH 10, 2020 - The Office of Study Abroad would like to make you aware of the updated guidelines regarding international travel from USM’s Office of the Provost. All University-sponsored international travel has been suspended through April 30, 2020, at which time travel guidelines will be reevaluated.

The Office of Study Abroad is moving forward with planning for all summer programs that do not have a CDC Alert Level 2 or higher, or a U.S. State Department Travel Advisory Level 3 or higher. Currently, those countries, where travel has been banned, include China, Iran, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. We will continue to monitor the situation and will be sending out more information if there are changes.

If the program you are participating on allows for individual flights, please delay purchasing any flights until the situation has been reevaluated on April 30. We encourage you to take advantage of the group flight if one is offered on your program.

Please let us know if you have any questions by emailing studyabroad@usm.edu or call 601.266.4344.
